Signing the uncapped players...

The Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) declared that IPL Franchisees may start the process of signing up the uncapped players for the fourth edition of the Indian Premier League from the 10th of January, 2011.

The signing of uncapped players will give a final shape to the squads of 10 teams in the fray.

The teams will use the remaining balance of their USD nine million salary cap to buy these players.

"According to IPL regulations the uncapped Indian players can be taken on fixed fees which are determined by when they first played First Class or List A cricket," a BCCI release said.

As per the pay structure for the uncapped players, cricketers, who have not played or first played Ranji Trophy, First Class or List A in the 2009-10 or 2010-11 season will get Rs 10 lakh per annum.

Rs 20 lakh per annum is for the players, who first played Ranji Trophy (First Class or List A) in the 2006-07, 2007-08 or 2008-09 seasons.

Those cricketers, who first played Ranji Trophy (First Class or List A) in the 2005-06 or earliers seasons, will have a salary cap of Rs 30 lakh per annum.

The players auction concluded on the 9th January, 2011 in Bangalore with 127 players were bought by different teams.

Out of a total of 127 players sold in the auction, the maximum were from India (45) followed by Australia (36), South Africa (18), Sri Lanka (9), England (7), New Zealand (7), West Indies (3), Bangladesh (1), Netherlands (1).

The 2011 IPL season will start from April 8, 2011 and conclude on May 28.

Sushanto Roy and the Pune Auction team played conservatively throughout the auction. There were a couple of huge buys by Pune and at the end of the day, they managed to get a balanced team together.

After the Hammer fell for the last time....

The IPL Player auction ended at 1800 IST on January 9, 2011. It was a fun weekend with all the ten franchises fighting for the best players available while keeping a check on the available purse.

A lot of shocks and surprises came our way as the auction progressed through the weekend. Some of them being, Ganguly and Gayle not being selected by any team, thus ending their and their fans dreams and expectations for this and the next IPL season. Also some players getting picked for much more than expected, like Robin Uthappa who was bought by Team Pune for $2.1 million.

Gautam Gambhir was the most sought after player who was sold at $2.4 million to Kolkata Knight Riders.

Some very fierce battles were seen throughout the auction. At the end of the auction, the players were distributed as below:
